Jason

This is Jason, a big friendly nine year old black lab. Weighing in at roughly 100 lbs. there’s a lot of him to go around, and probably half that weight is heart. Jason was one of Jenny’s foster dogs from Lab Rescue, and when it came down to it, Jenny couldn’t bear to let him go. He is a very active dog still for his age, and is addicted to his Frisbees. He still plays with the same yellow Frisbee that Jenny bought for him six years ago. It’s much more empty space now than Frisbee.

Ian

Ian, four years old, is something of a show-off. Jenny’s known him since he was born, and since then he’s always been trying to take center stage. He is one of those dogs that ALWAYS comes when you call his name…and any other name for that matter. Flamboyant and anything but modest, Ian is the life of every party. He hopes he can parlay this small exposure into either a movie career or a modeling gig.

Gabi

This is Gabi, and the fact that you are not down on your knees in worship and reverence right now offends her greatly. She is a princess and will not be treated otherwise. Gabi is an eight and a half year old Japanese Chin. She rules Jenny’s house with an iron paw and all the other dogs fall in line behind her. Her motto is “speak loudly and you won’t need a big stick.” We should stop typing now…we hear her coming.

Perla

Perla is a nine year old Sheltie mix. And SUCH a sweetheart! Jenny met her for the first time when someone walked into her vet office, arms outstretched, holding a puppy underneath its arms saying, “Anybody want a dog? I found it on the beltway." Jenny responded that she would try and find it a home…and she did. Perla is like a ray of sunshine perfumed by angels and packed into the body of a dog. Sweet doesn’t begin to describe her disposition.

Lamonte

This is Lamonte, the newest addition to Jenny’s family. He’s a one year old teacup Chihuahua. But don’t let his diminutive size fool you. Inside he’s a big, burly, rough and tumble street fighter who can hold his own in wrestling matches with all the other dogs (except Jason of course…Jason knows that would not be a fair fight.) In truth he only thinks he can hold his own, with his friends flinging him about with impunity. But we won’t tell him that…we don’t want to hurt his little, I MEAN BIG! ego.

Mr. Bean

Mr. Bean is a grumpy old man. Simple as that. He’s a fourteen year old Himalayan, and he keeps to himself mostly, grumbling about kids today, taxes, and how the latest hike in cat food prices is going to be the end of us all. But he’s happy with himself and likes what he likes, sitting in the sun and eating. He’s also recently developed an odd penchant for sitting in Lamonte’s crate, and will dart in whenever possible. Apparently he’s spent his whole life waiting for Lamonte to arrive.  A wise old man he is.

The Girls – Jelly and Ruby

Jelly and Ruby are half sisters but you would often mistake them for conjoined twins given the amount of time they spend together. They spend so much time together in fact that we thought it was only fitting that they get a page together. They are two year old Tonkinese cats. However, the similarities end at an overflowing love for each other. Ruby is bright and mischievous, always getting herself into places and things she shouldn’t by guile and cunning. Jelly is…well, not bright. But cuter than the cutest thing you can possibly imagine. She’s also mischievous, however getting herself into trouble more through dumb luck than any skill on her part. Ruby comes from a fine pedigree, her full name being Helena Rubinstein, a name one of Jenny’s old coworkers dreamed up. Jelly’s name comes from the condition of her belly. Jelly also has a licking compulsion / fetish generally brought on by human contact, feline contact, or pretty much anything. She drinks constantly to replace the water lost from her constant saliva deposits. They are both characters, and Jenny loves them very much.

The Birds – Sushi and Chucky

Both Sushi and Cucky are cockatiels.  Jenny’s had both of them for years.  As many of you know, cockatiels are generally very chatty birds, and these two are no exception.  Over the years they’ve picked up many phrases and imitations from Jenny and from another bird Jenny had years ago.  They mix and match all the phrases and tunes they know into a very interesting mixture.  Here’s a few selections from their upcoming album:

“Who’s a pretty birdy?”

“The Happy Birthday Song”

“Shave and Haircut, Two Bits”

“Jenny calling the dogs”

And our personal favorite, “the microwave beeping”.

Banjo

What can we say about Banjo? He is a ten year old DSH, and a seriously laid back dude. He wants what he wants, and he knows how to get it.  His favorite activity is enticing people into brushing him or in any other way paying him affection. He is just an all-around awesome cat.

DB

This is DB, a ten year old Siamese. DB is short for decibel, which if you’ve ever had him in your car on the way to the vet, you’d know why. He’s a little neurotic…actually a lot neurotic.  He has a fixation with white socks, and if you don’t leave him one to play with, and chew on he will steal one right out of the sock drawer. He drags them to his food bowl and alternates eating food and chewing on the sock. We think he actually uses the sock as dental floss! He is also one of the most loving cats we know.  He loves to spend time in your lap and will hop up whenever he gets the chance.  And he loves to lick goatees, beards, moustaches and even sometimes the top of your head. Jason is afraid DB may one day render him bald.
